Flair Earns Her First High-Level Versatile Title

NAVHDA Utility Prize II – October 2025

At Nemes Wirehaired Vizslas, our goal is to develop versatile, intelligent, and biddable dogs that excel both in the field and at home. Each dog’s journey is unique, and Flair’s recent accomplishment is a testament to that dedication and bond.

In just one year together, Flair continues to impress me with her drive, intelligence, and heart. What began as a plan to enter her in the NAVHDA Gun Dog Test (the intermediate level) quickly evolved when her abilities outpaced my expectations. Confident in her potential, we stepped up to the Utility Test—and Flair earned a very respectable Prize II.

She narrowly missed a Prize I due to the duck search. Flair is a big-running dog who thrives on the hunt, but Ohio’s ongoing drought meant the test site had very limited water. She found her duck within the first two minutes, pursued it briefly, and retrieved it to hand after the judges dispatched it. When sent back out to continue searching, she never quit—working tirelessly through the adjacent wooded area behind the pond for another seven to eight minutes, always searching, never giving up.

Eventually, the judges asked me to call her in, noting she hadn’t spent enough time in the water. Yet Flair had already covered the entire pond, and with no aquatic vegetation to hold scent or ducks, she made the intelligent choice to expand her search area. As a judge myself, I fully respect their consensus—it’s all part of the process. Still, I couldn’t be prouder of her performance, instinct, and determination.

Flair will do anything for me. She absolutely loves to work—just like her sire. This accomplishment marks only the beginning of our journey together, making Nemes proud.

Flair’s achievement reflects not only her natural ability but also the partnership we’ve built. I’m thrilled to see what the future holds as we continue training and preparing for the next chapter in her versatile career.
