A Journey Rooted in Passion, Proven in the Field
Meet Denise
My name is Denise Doll-Kiefer. I was born and raised on a rural farm in North Dakota, where I began hunting and training dogs at a young age. After a 35-year corporate career, I returned full-time to my lifelong passion—dogs.
Over the years, I’ve trained and owned many hunting breeds for both competition and the hunt itself. Today, Roger and I live on 20 acres in Brookville, Ohio, where our home and grounds are designed specifically to raise and train Wirehaired Vizslas. We also share our lives with a mini red Wirehaired Dachshund (Teckel), a Field Champion and Grand Champion with multiple performance titles.
How It All Began
Our journey with the Wirehaired Vizsla began after years with its sister breed, the Smooth Vizsla. While we admired the smooth-coated variety, we sought a dog that could better withstand the harsh hunting conditions of the north-central United States.
After careful research, we found what we were looking for in the Wirehaired Vizsla: similar drive and personality, but with a sturdier build and a weather-resistant coat. In 2015, we imported our first Wirehaired Vizsla—Zoldmali Eclipse Hungarian Aristocrat, whom we call Nemes—from Hungary. With him, we began a new chapter, founding Nemes Wirehaired Vizslas.
Why the Wirehaired Vizsla?
Wirehaired Vizslas are medium-range hunting dogs known for their calm temperament, eagerness to please, and strong instincts. With a wiry coat, solid bone structure, and natural tracking, retrieving, and pointing abilities, they are the ideal partner in the field—and a loyal companion at home. They are methodical, versatile, and highly trainable, making them excellent for hunters, competitors, and families alike.
Life in Brookville
We’re based on 20 acres in Brookville, Ohio—a space built for both comfort and training. From upland field work to water retrieval, our dogs are raised with ample room to develop physically and mentally in a natural environment. This setting allows us to provide personalized training, thoughtful pairings, and round-the-clock care to every dog that becomes part of the Nemes Wirehaired Vizslas legacy.
